Summary. The paper presented the theoretical and methodological model of attention regulation in passenger transport drivers as a functional system developed in accordance with the principles of the phased psychological modeling by I.N. Noss. At the conceptual and theoretical stage, the subject of modeling was determined – the attention regulation as a system-organized process realized through the interaction of five components: the operational (attention characteristics), functional (mental states), typological (profile of mental states), subjective (trust and locus of control), and contextual (conditions of the driver's activity). At the substantive stage, the structure of the model was established; it was supposed that the components made a relatively independent but unequal contribution to the functional reliability of attention. At the instrumental and methodological stage, diagnostic tools were selected for each component (the A-test VI.ZI.ES. and UPDK-MK, the Landolt test, the DS-8 methodology, the USK questionnaire, and A.B. Kupreychenko's trust scale); the contextual component was operationalized through the research procedure as a set of conditions reproducing the key requirements of the driver's activity. It was hypothesized that the regulation of drivers' attention was a system-organized process in which the mental states and personality-regulatory mechanisms, remaining non-disjunctive, made a relatively independent but unequal contribution to the functional reliability of attention. The statistical verification of the model was conducted on a sample of 306 male drivers (category D) from Moscow, Voronezh, and the Moscow Region with work experience from 3 to 31 years. The factor analysis confirmed the four-component structure of attention (75.05% of variance). The hierarchical regression analysis showed that the mental states explained 69.7% of the variance in the functional reliability of attention; the inclusion of trust and locus of control provided an increase to 75.7%. The analysis of typological differences revealed three qualitatively different ways of attention regulation with comparable level indicators: the mobilization-compensatory, voluntary-organized, and operational-autonomous modes. In the discussion, the obtained data were interpreted as evidence of the non-linear nature of attention regulation, which justified the need to include subjective characteristics in the diagnostic loop of driver assessment. The developed model allows for a transition from the control of compliance with normative indicators to the prognostic assessment of functional stability of attention and the identification of hidden risks of activity disorganization.
